The Tree Fern is one of the oldest plants on Earth, with origins dating back over 300 million years. In Colombia, these majestic ferns are found in cloud forests and humid mountain regions, thriving in shaded, moist environments between 1,000 and 3,000 meters above sea level.

Unlike typical ferns, Tree Ferns can grow a trunk-like stem that reaches up to 10 meters tall, topped with a crown of large, feathery fronds that can spread several meters wide. This gives them a palm-like appearance, creating lush canopies that provide shelter for countless species of birds, insects, and small mammals.

Tree Ferns play a crucial role in the ecosystem by conserving humidity, preventing soil erosion, and serving as a habitat for orchids, mosses, and bromeliads that grow on their trunks. Due to their slow growth and ecological importance, they are considered a protected species in Colombia.
