Sietecueros, commonly known as “Seven Leathers” or “May Flower,” is a native flowering tree of Colombia, especially found in the Andean region. It grows at altitudes between 1,500 and 3,200 meters, thriving in cool and humid climates.

This species is admired for its striking purple to magenta blossoms, which bloom abundantly during the dry season, painting the landscape with vibrant color. The tree is also recognizable by its reddish bark that peels off in layers, resembling pieces of leather—hence its name.

Beyond its beauty, Sietecueros plays an important ecological role, attracting pollinators such as bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds, and it is often planted in urban areas, parks, and roadsides for both ornamental and environmental restoration purposes.
